Highlights from SS20 Paris Men’s Fashion Week

News

This June the HAVEN team headed to Paris for the Spring/Summer 2020 Men’s Fashion Week. We held our SS20 Showroom in the Marais neighbourhood of Paris, showing, for the second time our upcoming collection to a select group of buyers, press, and partners. We continue to build on our functional design principles by reimagining and reinventing classic military, outdoor, and workwear garments. We are all very excited for this latest evolution of the HAVEN brand.

Alongside the HAVEN buying team, I also had the opportunity to take a sneak peek at some of my favourite SS20 collections presented including AFFIX, MAPLE, White Mountaineering, UNDERCOVER, and visvim.

Created by a team of industry heavyweights, AFFIX is one of the most interesting new brands out there and is providing a uniquely modern take on workwear. Their latest asics collaboration, new colorways and textiles and graphics for this season, were all eye exciting for me to see.

Coinciding with the Paris-wide fête de la musique, where many streets close for outdoor musicians and parties, AFFIX hosted an outdoor party in a park with live
DJ’s. Good music with good people at a perfect venue, it had all the elements of a fun party. At the very end, around three or four AM, a line of the 40-50 police officers swept the crowd from side to side to call it a night.

JUNYA WATANABE MAN never disappoints. This season we saw a lot of strong denim pieces and a continuation of regular collaboration items from Levi’s and Canada Goose. Another highlight was an interesting selection of linen workwear.

Our long-time friend, Austin, was also in Paris showing his MAPLE accessories collection at MAN/WOMAN show. His collection has been focusing on all kinds of men’s jewelry with obscure and interesting references to both old and new
subcultures.

White Mountaineering is a great example of a brand that combines fashion and functionality. The SS20 collection showcased what White Mountaineering is most recognized for, with technical detailing, intricate styling and superb use of colours and patterns. They have also utilized a newly invented stretchable Gore-tex for the first time this season alongside a collaborative shoe with adidas.

Chitose Abe’s sacai label has been consistently making impressive and complex menswear collections for years now, but the brand is finally starting to get more global and mainstream recognition after its highly sought after collaborations with Nike. Some of the many strong pieces from this collection are shown below. Also, it was very cool to see their Native Sons collaboration this season.

Undercover celebrates its 30th anniversary this season along with Jun Takahashi’s 50th birthday and we see a logical turn to more subdued and refined aesthetic after a few seasons of bold streetwear collections influenced by the films of Stanley Kubrick. The SS20 collection is divided into two reference points, the first is a collaborative project with prolific contemporary artist and friend of Jun Takahashi, Cindy Sherman, and the second is the iconic F.W. Murau film Nosferatu.

visvim evolves its design steadily along with their iconic brand philosophy. For
SS20 they have introduced several exciting new styles in addition to new renditions of visvim signatures including an impressive leather Cristo Sandal. Their representation is always outstanding and a visit to their Paris Showroom is always a highlight of the trip.
