A LIFE SAVING FABRIC INNOVATION BORN IN GREAT BRITAIN
The story of EtaProof begins in late 1930’s England, where a team of scientists engineered an improved fabric for fire hoses by weaving extra long staple fibre cotton into an extremely dense plain weave cloth. With the onset of World War II in 1939, the bulk of Britain’s industrial might was turned towards the war effort and Ministry of Defence engineers discovered that this new cotton fabric could serve a valuable, life saving purpose for British fighter pilots. Dubbing it Ventile®, the fabric was adapted for survival suits, prized for both protecting downed pilots from the frigid water of the Atlantic ocean and keeping them comfortable in the cockpit during long missions. Following the war, the fabric went into mass production and continued to be the ultimate choice for high performance in extreme conditions for decades, being worn by legendary mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary on the first summit of Mount Everest and Sir Ranulph Phiennes on his crossing of the Arctic.
PEAK PERFORMANCE WITH NATURAL COMFORT AND BREATHABILITY
The process of making EtaProof™ begins with the highest grade, extra-long-staple organic cotton. These rare cotton fibres are carefully spun with high precision to create an even, uniform yarn and are then doubled to increase durability and abrasion resistance. Over 15,000 individual strands of yarn are then threaded onto the loom and woven into a fabric, a process that takes meticulous precision and several hours to complete, with resulting fabric containing over thirty percent more yarn than conventional cotton. After careful inspection and testing by the Stotz® team of textile experts to ensure the utmost quality, the fabric is then sent off for dyeing and finishing using a specially developed process. After dyeing, the fabric could be treated with a durable water repellency finish (DWR) on both sides of the fabric for added performance and water resistance.
This natural and sustainable fabric works in a deceptively simple way. When the tightly woven, extra-long-staple yarns are penetrated by water, they swell and create a barrier to additional moisture, while a hydrophobic impregnation provides additional water repellency. This tight weave also creates a windproof barrier and allows the durable fabric to age gracefully over time without losing its functional properties. Pure cotton construction means that the fabric is one of the most breathable weatherproof fabrics on the market, and ensures the garments are soft, quiet and comfortable. For SS21 we utilize three variations of EtaProof™ fabrics.
STATION JACKET – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ COTTON
Our Station Jacket is a modernized rendition of the iconic trucker jacket unified with technical performance attributes. Made from heavy Stotz® EtaProof 270 that is optimized for weather resistance and breathability. We added a YKK Excella™ dual zip closure that is concealed with an original shank button fastened storm flap. The chest pockets have been enlarged for modern utility, and concealed side seam zip hand pockets provide secure storage during travel and daily commuting. Made in Canada.
FATIGUE JACKET – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ COTTON
Our Fatigue Jacket modernizes the utilitarian military BDU, with a more contemporary fit and technical upgrades. Made from midweight Stotz® EtaProof 200 that is optimized for all-season comfort, weather resistance and breathability. Four large chest pockets with concealed snap flap closure offer an abundance of storage. The placket design conceals a YKK Michel snap button closure, with self-fabric reinforcement for a secure fit and ease of use. Made in Canada.
BRIGADE PANTS – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ COTTON
Our Brigade pant is a classic BDU Cargo pant with upgraded fit, materials and hardware. The shape has been slightly modified to have a more contemporary relaxed fit, while the materials has been improved using midweight Stotz® EtaProof™ 200 that is optimized for optimized for all-season comfort, weather resistance and breathability. Snap tab waist adjusters for varied size preferences. Zippered fly with genuine Corozo top button. Additional details include snap flap hand and seat pockets for extra security, bellowed cargo side pockets, reinforced seat, articulated knee pleats and drawstring cinch for a custom fit of your choosing. WORK PANTS – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ COTTON
The mechanic pant re-worked. While retaining it’s original DNA we modified its construction with the use of Stotz® performance natural fabrics, using heavy EtaProof™ 270. Featuring a flat front and relaxed fit, we’ve updated the details with storm welt pockets at the rear to secure your belongings and a single welt pocket at the right side for your mobile phone. Made in Canada.
BALLISTIC VEST – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ RIPSTOP
The Ballistic Vest takes inspiration from military frag vests and is a versatile layering garment with abundant storage capabilities. Made from midweight Stotz® EtaProof 220 Ripstop that is versatile and durable, with a classic ripstop weave appearance. Front closure is fastened with a YKK Excella zipper with custom debossed metal pull, as well as with a snap button storm flap. Two large angled flap patch chest pockets, with hidden snap button fastening, offer storage for essential items along with two vertical zippered hand pockets. Made in Canada.

FIELD CAP – STOTZ® ETAPROOF™ COTTON
Our Field Cap is built with a water and wind-resistant Stotz® fabric, using heavy EtaProof™ 270 that is optimized for dura-bility and weather resistance. The six-panel design features tonal embroidered ventilation eyelets, as well as structural brim stitching. Adjustable for a custom fit, this cap is fastened at the rear with a Horween Chromexcel leather strap and metal clasp with debossed logo. Made in Canada.
