Situated on Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast, between rocky shorelines, temperate rainforest, and the relentless force of the Pacific, Tofino can feel like the end of the road. For Toronto-born designer Braden Ioi, however, it’s home—a constant source of inspiration that ebbs and flows with the seasons. Through his ongoing project, Speaking of the Weather, Braden crafts small-batch ceramic objects, homeware, and sculptural pieces, each deeply tied to the rhythms of this remote coastal community.

Like Tofino itself—where resilience, adaptability, and creativity are essential—OTW® by Vans embraces these principles, reinterpreting its heritage through functional, future-forward iterations of its most iconic styles.

To mark the release of the OTW® by Vans Old Skool 36 Vibram, we traveled to Tofino to join Braden for a lesson in surfing, ceramics, and the art of living at the edge of the map
