OVER A CENTURY OF FABRIC EXCELLENCE BORN IN ITALY
The origin of Loro Piana can be traced to the early 19th century in the northern Italian town of Trivero. It was here that the humble Loro Piana family began trading wool, gradually building their network of wool suppliers and garnering a reputation for high quality.
By 1900 the family owned two mills and in 1924 the Loro Piana company is officially founded by Pietro Loro Piana, who moves the headquarters to the nearby town of Quarona. Nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps where it remains to this day, the company continued to grow, and in 1941, leadership was passed to Peitro’s nephew Franco, who would initiate the brands transformation into a global hegemon of luxury fabrics.
The post-war boom led to a growing demand for extremely high quality wool and cashmere, and Loro Piana soon became the supplier of choice for the burgeoning European, American and Asian luxury fashion and haute couture market which continues to the present day. Growing to be the top buyer of premium wool in the world, the company continued to grow into the 21st century and in 2013 it joined the LVMH group with the aim of preserving its unique heritage and spirit while ensuring its future potential with both parties sharing a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and innovation.
THE BENCHMARK FOR THE WORLD’S FINEST YARNS AND FABRICS
Drawing on both time-honored traditions and state of the art technology Loro Piana has come to set the benchmark for the world’s finest yarns and fabrics. While sending their finished fabrics across the globe, Pietro and his sons Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana, who succeeded him, travelled the world in a relentless search for new machinery and technology, as well as the finest raw materials.
This incessant search for the best, led them from Tasmania to Mongolia and Peru, fostering close relationships with farmers and small scale suppliers along the way. Loro Piana then turns these unique raw materials into its world-renowned textiles, which are all meticulously crafted in Italy by some of the country’s most skilful artisans. Strict control of every stage of production ensures exacting standards, from the collection of the natural fibers to final production.
Loro Piana’s commitment to the sustainability of these rare, exclusive fibers has resulted in long term conservation programs to safeguard the animals and their habitats. By forging exclusive partnerships with suppliers around the world, it supports and encourages ongoing research and development directly from the source. Tradition and innovation continue to inspire the company’s uncompromising vision.
