Nestled in northern Hyōgo Prefecture, Toyooka is a region shaped by craftsmanship. Known to many for the historic hot springs of nearby Kinosaki Onsen, the area is equally renowned as the heart of Japan’s bag-making industry. For over a millennium, artisans here have worked with locally sourced willow, developing techniques that evolved from traditional basket weaving into a culture of exceptional bag manufacturing. Today, Toyooka remains home to generations of skilled makers, where knowledge is passed down through dedicated apprenticeship and every piece is held to exacting standards of quality and construction.

It is here that the HAVEN Horizon Backpack and Horizon Messenger Bag are brought to life. Handmade from start to finish, each bag passes through the hands of experienced craftspeople at every stage of production. Technical materials, stretch mesh, and premium leather components are individually cut, assembled, and stitched using specialized machinery and techniques developed through decades of expertise. Combining high-strength technical nylon with natural leather demands a precise approach to pattern making, cutting, and sewing, with each material requiring its own considerations throughout the manufacturing process. Every panel, seam, reinforcement, and finishing detail is carefully executed to achieve a balance of functionality, durability, and refined construction before each bag is shaped into its final form.

Finished with YKK Aquaguard zippers and thoughtfully integrated storage throughout, each bag is built to endure years of travel, commuting, and exploration.
